Improved Air Quality Scientists at the Universities of Birmingham and Lancaster (UK) argue that by ‘greening up’ our streets a massive 30% reduction in pollution could be achieved, according to research published on 18 July 2012 in the journal Environmental Science and Technology." (The Lancaster uni news archive). At Verti-Grow we believe that living walls and vertical gardening will be a vital part of city living in the future and will function as the lungs of our expanding cities. They purify the air extremely efficiently and filter out harmful particulates in pollution at the same time as creating oxygen. Reducing the City Heat Island Effect The heat island effect occurs when exposed surfaces such as concrete , pavements and roofs are heated to temperatures up to 50 degrees hotter than the air.
