Live Wall Benefits
Living Walls have large array of benefits and applications. They play a large part in aesthetics , health and functionality of the environment we all share . To learn more about Biophilic Design and how Living Walls benefit Health & Well-being please click HERE.
Improved Air Quality
Scientists at the Universities of Birmingham and Lancaster (UK) argue that by ‘greening up’ our streets a massive 30% reduction in pollution could be achieved, according to research published on 18 July 2012 in the journal Environmental Science and Technology." (The Lancaster uni news archive).
At Verti-Grow we believe that living walls and vertical gardening will be a vital part of city living in the future and will function as the lungs of our expanding cities. They purify the air extremely efficiently and filter out harmful particulates in pollution at the same time as creating oxygen.
Living walls also have a positive effect on peoples moods and staffs morale improving efficiency in the workplace and reducing stress levels and beautifying the work area.
Reducing the City Heat Island Effect
The heat island effect occurs when exposed surfaces such as concrete , pavements and roofs are heated to temperatures up to 50 degrees hotter than the air. With so many of these exposed surfaces in such a dense area such as our city's this effect is amplified .
Living Walls massively reduce this effect and keep temperatures closer to air temperature .
Providing a cooling effect in the Summers and keeping the heat in during the Winters , Living Walls are excellent insulators , reducing bills and energy consumption they score another point on green factors.
Reducing Noise Pollution
Living wall act as noise dampeners , absorbing acoustic energy . This can have many applications inside and outside buildings where sounds is bouncing around bare walls and surfaces. This again can reduce stress and promote a more peaceful environment.
Living Walls can provide a much needed home for nature and promote bio-diversity within our cities . There is a decline in insect populations across the board which is bad news for all of us. It is crucial we change the way we co-exist with nature and Living Walls and Green Roofs will play a large part in that.
Rain water can be diverted, captured and used meaning less strain on the drains and again reducing the water bill. In some cases this is a brilliant solution to an area that has had persistent problems with flooding.
There is nothing like a Living Wall or Green Roof to create an amazing exterior or interior finish . Just standing in front of one is improving your mood, the air you breath and your surroundings.
Patterns and shapes can be used in the design process to create beautiful plant schemes and even spell out text.
Used by businesses to stand out from the rest or home owners to brighten up a previously dull area they really do provide a wow factor that is unrivalled.
